I’m not sure what genre these guys would pigeon-hole themselves in, but they sound like a progressive rock band to me. It was definitely worth driving down to DC for this thirty minute set. While the recording came out very well, I still feel compelled to let you know that the droning that begins around 1:11 of track 5 (Training Sequence, part III) is NOT caused by me. I noticed it right away when the band was playing, the bass was just an overwhelming drone for a minute or so. Beyond that, the show is a fantastic listen.

Last night was my first, and probably my last, time at The Red & The Black. I’d heard that the area was kind of iffy, but I didn’t get a sense of that at all and I found a parking spot relatively quickly. I made it to the club about thirty seconds before The Prisoner’s Dilemma hit the stage, but, thankfully, they held off for a couple of more minutes while I set up. Where to set up was a problem, and the sole reason why I may never go back to tape at The Red & The Black again: the venue is about the size of your average kitchen. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a club that was smaller than this place. Capacity couldn’t be more than 40 people, fifty tops. I had planned on staying for all the bands, especially wanting to see Imperial China, but the tight conditions, coupled with the fact that there was nothing to protect me and my gear from getting swallowed up by the audience, I decided to hit the road after this set.
