Instrumental progressive rock from Baltimore…I’ve found yet another favorite band. Whoever says Baltimore doesn’t have a vibrant music scene is full of shit.

Hard instrumental rock from Philly…I love the elaborate explanations of what the songs are about, even though there are no lyrics. You can definitely close your eyes and picture sword fights in the Poconos.

When it comes to WZT Hearts, I sound like a broken record and I just give up: I refuse to go up after every show I see and tell Jason, “Man, that was the best set I’ve seen from you guys.” But it’s true…from the first time I’ve seen these guys, each subsequent set has been better than the last and this set is no exception. Each time I see the band, there’s something that jumps out to make it that much more special. In this set, what jumps out is the magnificience of Shaun Flynn’s drumming…this guy is sick! It’s probably a good idea that Jason and Jeff were off to one side during the set because Shaun was absolutely on fire.

Finally! After several failed attempts, I’ve come away with a Double Dagger recording that I am happy with…for all those who give the soundman shit, always remember that the soundman is worth his weight in gold and when you get a good one, don’t be an ass and blame him when the show doesn’t go the way you planned. The soundguys at The Ottobar are always top notch (Brooks, Rob, and the guy at this show…wish I had gotten his name).
The video, on the other hand, is less than spectacular…in fact, turn off one light and the whole thing would have been pitch black. The only saving grace for the video is that the audio is taken from my external mics. At the risk of being sentimental, I thought it was great that immediately after the song, Luxury Condos for the Poor, which closed the set, Denny came from behind the drums to point out his father in the audience, thank him, and let everyone know that he was doing this shit before any of them were even born.
Happy Birthday Denny! And thanks to Double Dagger for affording me the opportunity to record their music.
