Earlier this year, Dr. Tuborg and the Crimson Vanguard released their debut cd, The Rise of the Fledgling. Personally, I thought it was the best album of 2007, local or otherwise…which is actually saying alot because I think we’ve had a bumper crop of excellent albums released in Baltimore this year. Check Double Dagger’s Ragged Rubble; The Dirty Marmaduke Flute Squad’s Die Humpin’; Celebration’s The Modern Tribe; Pontiak’s Sun On Sun; Bad Liquor Pond’s The Year of the Clam; Pariah Piranha’s Feel My Face Noise (ok, so they’re from York, PA…but Baltimore has claimed them as one of our own); Dan Deacon’s Spiderman of the Rings; Brian Adam Ant’s Separation Celebration; The Stalking Horses’ This Is Your Signal; and Thank You’s World City. I’m sure I missed others, but you get the point…this is a great time in Baltimore music and Dr. Tuborg is the cream of the crop (in my opinion).

I would suggest you catch their live show next time they come to your town, but like Bad Liquor Pond (Dr. Tuborg and the Crimson Vanguard is essentially Bad Liquor Pond with Tim Glinka…but the two bands couldn’t be more different), Dr. Tuborg doesn’t play much beyond the city limits. I really hope you enjoy this recording…the sound is excellent and the band is awesome.
